Meme Generator
Make a meme in seconds: upload your own image or start from a blank background, type a top and bottom caption, and the tool draws them in the classic white Impact lettering with a bold black outline, wrapping long lines automatically. Adjust the font size to taste and download a watermark-free PNG. Your picture is read entirely in your browser and never uploaded, so personal photos and private screenshots stay on your device.
What is this meme generator?
This is a free, browser-based meme maker. You bring an image โ a photo, a screenshot, a drawing, anything your browser can open โ or start from a plain white or black background, then add a top caption and a bottom caption. The tool renders them in the look everyone recognises: heavy uppercase Impact-style lettering, white fill, thick black outline, centred and wrapped to fit the width. When you are happy, you download a clean PNG. There is no sign-up, no watermark, and no upload โ the whole thing runs on your device.
How to use it
- Click Upload image and pick a picture, or choose a White or Black blank background for a text-only meme.
- Type your top text and bottom text. They are converted to uppercase and wrapped onto as many lines as needed.
- Drag the font size slider until the words sit the way you want over the image.
- Click Download PNG. The file saves straight to your device, watermark-free, ready to share.
The classic Impact meme style, explained
The familiar meme caption is not a random choice. White uppercase letters in a condensed, heavy face (Impact is the canonical one) sit on top of a thick black outline. The outline is what makes the words legible on any background at once: against a bright sky the black edge separates the letters, and against a dark scene the white fill carries them. This tool reproduces that effect by stroking each line in black first and then filling it in white, with the outline thickness scaled to the font size so it stays balanced whether the text is small or huge. Captions are centred horizontally, pinned to the top and bottom, and wrapped word by word so a long sentence never runs off the edge.
Bring your own image โ no copyrighted templates
Many meme sites hand you a gallery of famous template images. We deliberately do not, because most of those pictures are copyrighted and reusing them can be a legal grey area. Instead this tool is built around your image: upload a photo you took, a screenshot you captured, or a blank colour you caption from scratch. Everything you make is yours, with no third-party image rights riding along. If you need to reshape your source first, the resizer and cropper below pair naturally with this tool.
Privacy by design
Your image never leaves your browser. It is read locally with the FileReader API, drawn onto a canvas with JavaScript on your own machine, and exported as a PNG without ever touching a server. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or logged. That means you can safely meme private screenshots, personal photos, work mockups, or anything sensitive. Close the tab and nothing remains โ there is no account and no history.
It is part of a small image toolkit. To get your picture to the right dimensions first, use the Image Resizer or the Image Cropper; for stylish caption text elsewhere, try the Fancy Text Generator; and to inline an image into code, reach for Image to Base64.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Your picture is read inside your browser with the FileReader API and drawn onto a canvas locally. It is never sent over the network, never stored, and gone the moment you close the tab. That makes it safe to meme private screenshots, personal photos, and internal images without sharing them with anyone.
Does the meme have a watermark?
No. The PNG you download is exactly what you see on the canvas, with no watermark, logo, or branding burned in. There is no sign-up and no paywall to remove anything.
Why is the meme text white with a black outline?
That is the classic meme look: bold uppercase Impact-style lettering in white with a thick black outline. The outline keeps the words readable on top of any image, light or dark, busy or plain, which is why it became the internet standard. This tool draws the outline and the white fill automatically.
Can I make a meme without an image?
Yes. Leave the image empty and the tool gives you a plain white or black background to caption, which is handy for text-only memes and quote cards. You can switch the blank color and the canvas size before adding your top and bottom text.
Why are there no built-in meme templates?
We deliberately do not ship popular meme template images because most of them are copyrighted. Instead you bring your own picture or use a blank background, so every meme you make is yours to use freely without worrying about someone else's image rights.
